NEW YORK (AP) — National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre acknowledged at a civil trial Monday that he wrongly expensed private flights for his family and accepted vacations from vendors doing business with the nonprofit gun rights organization without disclosing them. The New York attorney general sued the 74-year-old CEO and three co-defendants in 2020, claiming widespread misspending and self-enrichment among certain NRA leaders. “I now know there was a limit of $25,” for NRA-sponsored gifts, LaPierre said. “They weren’t gifts; they were work items for me.”LaPierre also acknowledged authorizing private helicopter flights for NRA executives to and from the Texas Motor Speedway during NASCAR events. The attorney general’s office is calling for restitution and financial penalties for NRA officials who improperly profited from the organization's activities.

MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — Felix Rosenqvist will end his tenure with Arrow McLaren Racing by starting from the pole in the IndyCar Series season finale at Laguna Seca. Rosenqvist won the only two poles of the season for McLaren, which is still seeking its first win of the season from its three-driver lineup headed into Sunday's finale. Rosenqvist announced earlier this week that he's moving to Meyer Shank Racing next season; McLaren said David Malukas will replace him next year. In the end, Palou decided last month he wasn't going to McLaren at all, too late for the team to retain Rosenqvist. Ericsson, who is in his fourth season with Ganassi, won the Indianapolis 500 last year and had been lobbying since for a better contract.

A photograph showing a group of people holding a misspelled “secede” sign was taken at a 2009 motorcycle rally in Texas, not during the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC 2023) as recent social media posts suggest. The image was taken at a Republic of Texas motorcycle rally in Austin on June 12, 2009, according to the caption information on Flickr. One user who shared the image on Twitter (bit.ly/3ZRqeqV) later labeled it “parody” in a separate post (bit.ly/3SXe65d). CPAC 2023 took place between March 1 and 4 in Maryland. A picture of people with a misspelled “secede” sign was taken at a Republic of Texas motorcycle rally in 2009, not during CPAC 2023.
